One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord And to meditate in His temple.
Psalm 27:4 NASB
David understood the cry of a lovesick heart. To be with Him changes everything, to see Him changes everything...
He changes everything.
The Genesis 1 Creator God, is also our Husband. He deeply desires intimacy with us. He won't force it on us because He is a Gentleman but He keeps knocking, and knocking and He is waiting for us to open the door of our hearts to Him.
He's so jealous for our affections. He's given us everything and He didn't have to do anything. He gave Himself for the sake of love! Can't we see His heart? We've lost sight of the God who's name is Jealous (Exodus 34:14)and given Him the name mean, cruel, unrighteous judge. When in fact, everything that He does is out of the heart of a Bridegroom! His language in the book of Hosea, and Jeremiah and many many others show that even before God came to earth and took on human form that He had a Bridegroom's heart. He's always been a Bridegroom!
"I remember concerning you the devotion of your youth, the love of your betrothals, your following after Me in the wilderness... What injustice did your fathers find in Me, that they went far from Me and walked after emptiness and became empty?" Jeremiah 2:2-5
"...And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so your God will rejoice over you." Isaiah 62:5
"Go, take to yourself a wife of harlotry and have children of harlotry; for the land commits flagrant harlotry, forsaking the Lord." Hosea 1:2
"When Israel was a youth I loved him... Yet it is I who taught Ephraim to walk, I took them in My arms; but they did not know that I healed them. I led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love, and I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws; and I bent down and fed them... How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? ...My heart is turned over within Me, All My compassions are kindled." Hosea 11:1-9
He's always been a Bridegroom and just like an earthly bridegroom who will not tolerate his wife to have other lovers, so it is with God. He is jealous for our affections and our heart.
Over and over again, He beckons us to return to our first love. He's given us His whole heart. Will we give Him ours?
